Mill Road Judicial Review

Local concern was raised immediately following the news Mill Road was going to be included in the $12 billion New Zealand Upgrade Program package in January 2020.

The 21.5km Mill Rd arterial route, was planned to provide an alternative road between Manukau and Drury.

All Aboard Aotearoa then filed a Judicial review against the roading project as it plainly went against the goals clearly laid out in the Zero Carbon Act. According to the Zero Carbon Act Auckland is meant to half it’s transport emissions by 2030. According to Waka Kotahi’s own analysis Mill Road was going to lead to a 6% increase in transport emissions by 2030. Find out more here.

On April 29th 2021 the goverment announced that it was looking to cut Mill Road due to emissions concerns and budget blow out.

We believe that our legal challenge was vital in pressuring the goverment to cut Mill Road and is a massive step towards achieving a less car dependent, carbon zero future.
